Congratulations to Kayna Plaisted, Karner Blue Education Center special education teacher and instructional coach, for being named a candidate for Education Minnesota’s 2015 Minnesota Teacher of the Year Award. Plaisted is one of 123 candidates for Minnesota Teacher of the Year, which was announced on February 2.
This year’s program will name the 51st Minnesota Teacher of the Year, celebrating the tradition of excellence in teaching in Minnesota. Candidates include preschool through grade 12 teachers from public or private schools who hold a Minnesota teaching license and have over three years of teaching experience.
Plaisted has served as a special education teacher for Northeast Metro 916 since 2011. She started at the former elementary special education program at Otter Lake and transitioned this year to the new Karner Blue Education Center.
"Kayna's leadership at Karner Blue Education Center goes beyond her role as teacher and instructional coach," says Val Rae Boe, Karner Blue principal/manager. "She has been a tremendous support to her colleagues in their new educational environment and has lead them through change and growth by exemplifying the characteristics worthy of Minnesota's teacher of the year."
The 2015 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced on May 3. Over the coming weeks, a 25-member panel of community leaders will name a group of semifinalists and finalists.
