Career and Technical Center dental students engage in service learning
March 3, 2015
Throughout the month of February, Career and Technical Center dental students have been busy giving back to the community and applying hands-on learning through service.
On February 6 and 7, students volunteered for Give Kids A Smile at a community dental clinic, helping to provide free dental care to children in need.
Their service continued with a Valentine's Day project, where the students made 200 cards attached to toothbrushes and delivered them to three area senior homes.
During National Dental Month in February, dental students also had the opportunity to contact a past elementary teacher and visit their classroom to present an oral health lesson. Overall, the students visited 19 schools and all of the presentations were well received, with the teachers providing excellent feedback to their former students.
Northeast Metro 916 is one of three intermediate school districts in Minnesota, serving approximately 4,000 students through shared programming that includes career and technical education, special education services, area learning centers and elementary education.
