WELS-South increases exposure to words through art

Literacy can take shape in many different ways. As a Professional Learning Community (PLC) initiative, WELS-South is working hard to increase literacy opportunities for all students and while many of their students are considered emerging and novice readers, there is a high interest in letters and numbers. In a creative twist, WELS-South is using their art clubs and sensory-based experiences to discover more ways to interact with words.
Northeast Metro 916 is one of three intermediate school districts in Minnesota, serving approximately 4,000 students through shared programming that includes career and technical education, special education services, area learning centers and elementary education.
