Eric Cameron’s social studies class at 916 Mahtomedi Academy took the idea of Civil War reenactment to the next level using 3D printing. Cameron focused his Civil War unit on how the war was ended and the new technology that played an important role in the outcome – hot air balloons and ironclad boats. Using historically accurate information about how the North and South ships were built, students designed their own Ironclad ship using a template on www.tinkercad.com
. The lesson then culminated with #battleofmahtomedi, utilizing ping pong balls as cannons and a kiddie pool as the body of water to reenact the historic battles.
